Driven out of my tent this morning by the heat of the sun…. Awesome! Horses were enjoying it a little too much – swift was actually snoring and it took me a while to get them up to get ready. Had a lazy start to the day and a lovely ride up Glen Muick. Sun shining through the trees but we were in the cooler shade, stunning views. I think I smiled all the way up the glen and enjoyed it so much that I had a nip of whisky to celebrate with lunch (it is my holiday after all!). A tough bit of track to start the hill and we devised a new method of going due to Yogi’s speed walk on the ups. Basically I long-reined him wiith the two lead ropes and attached Swift to my belt behind me which worked a treat! I got pulled up the hill, Yogi got to be infront which he loves and I didn’t get bashed out of the way by either horse…. Result! That method is logged! Arrived at a bothy for the night under the shadow of Lochnagar, plenty of breeze to keep the midgies away for the horses. Bit lonely though… no-one else here!
Don’t worry, we are all there in spirit with you. Loving your updates and just a little bit envious.xx
Well done you seem to be doing just fine, I have been in contact with H&H so fingers crossed , so take care enjoy your trip xx
You sound very resourceful and practical, Claire! Also sounds lovely waking up with the sun in your tent and your two faithful friends outside! 🙂
It sounds like so much fun Claire, what a way to spend your holidays 🙂
Claire my good friend fiona is the ranger for balmoral and stays in the ranger house at the visitor centre at the start of loch muick, she would have joined you in a whiskey, she is also very horsey.
Go girl! Sounds great and you are now into the groove after your first few days. I did a 5 day long-distance ride a while ago round about Kinlochleven, Devil’s Staircase, Rannoch Moor etc – was amazing. Do hope the sun keeps shining and the whisky doesn’t run out! Loving the updates. Greetings from the Scottish Borders. xx
